Bedok Market Place is one of the food havens i get to know about just quite recently. It is located near Bedok Road. Bedok Market place is like lined up with many eating outlets, serving local delights of roti prata, satay, roti john, zi char, western, etc etc. There’s a whole stretch of tables lined up in front of the shops, and customers are free to seat anywhere along the stretch and order food from any of the stalls, without restrictions, like a hawker center. As most of the stalls are operated by the malay communities, the food here are mostly halal certified, attracting lots of malay folks to dine here with their wide variety of choices. Nevertheless, it also attracts many non-malays to gather there for dinner and sessions of chit chatting. Tables are plenty, and if you can’t find one along the stretch, there is another whole stretch of tables along the other side of the shops.Once you settled down on a table, you will be greeted by the many attendents from the various shops asking you what you want to order. The whole table is filled with 5 or 6 laminated menus, with great looking pictures enticing you to order like you’ve never had eaten anything the whole day. It’s a relief that all the stores are selling almost all different items, and there isn’t much harsh competition, as of what i see.
We ordered roti Prata from New Hawa Restaurant. It’s not really fantastic, normal standard, but good enough. I like the satay, the meat are sufficiently marinated and tender, especially the mutton ones, and there isn’t any mutton odour. Kopi-chino is way too sweet for me.
There’s this western stall serving very nice and unique western food that you seldom find in normal coffeeshops and hawker centers. I’ll try it next time when I go there.
